kVA to Amps Conversion Formula

Formula
$$I = \frac{1000 \cdot S}{V}$$ $$I = \frac{1000 \cdot S}{\sqrt{3} \cdot V}$$

Where:

  • $$I$$ = current (amperes)
  • $$S$$ = apparent power (kVA)
  • $$V$$ = voltage (volts)

KVA to Amps – Calculation Example

Given:

  • $$S$$ = 50 kVA
  • $$V$$ = 400 V (3-phase)

Calculation:

  1. $$I = \frac{1000 \cdot 50}{\sqrt{3} \cdot 400}$$
  2. $$I = \frac{50000}{692.82} \approx 72.2~A$$

Converting kVA to amps is essential in electrical load analysis, allowing professionals to properly size circuit breakers, cables, and power distribution components. For single-phase systems, the basic formula applies. For three-phase systems, the result is adjusted using √3 to account for phase differences. This calculator supports both system types and ensures fast, accurate conversions with minimal effort.
